Will Jackson Finally Get the Best Picture?
I am wondering, how many of us out there were disgusted that Frieda got makeup Oscar last year over The Two Towers? Jeez, an eyebrow on a hot chick beats all the orcs. OK, whatever. Well, do you all think that finally, Peter and the gang will get Best Picture for The Return of the King?
I just hope that he finally gets what he really deserves, and by the way, I think the Motion Picture Academy is just about clutching at straws the past few years (at least) for trying to make dramas the only winners.
If not, I know Peter will be laughing all the way to the bank, but just once I'd like to see some booing in that bum kissing audience.

but, definitely not the merlot.
eat your grapes, leave the animals alone.
I hope he wins. He made 3 great movies in the past 3 years.
If he doesn't, my friend and I are prepared to send threatening letters!
They've been saying that everyone's been waiting until the last one to give him his due
That's stupid though. What if they're expectations aren't up to what they thought they were? What if Jackson poured his heart and suol into Fellowship more than Return Of The King?
I think he deserves more than what he got for Fellowship and Two Towers. Why bother to wait until the last movie? He made three great movies, not one.

the whole time though he's been saying RotK is his favorite of all and the one he worked the hardest on
That's true, but it doesn't mean that the other two movies aren't bad movies that don't deserve awards.
At least they were respected in some form at the MTV Movie awards.

Oh. Ok then.
I hope that he gets best director. If he doesn't get that the academy's out of thier minds.

I just hope the movie gets some sort of official nod, Best Picture or Best Director.
I would like to say clean sweep, but with Kill Bill, Last Samurai, two Matrix films, Cold Mountian, Master Commander...I could go on, Oscar is going to prove to be a battle year....full of great surprises and not so great, and not to mention the duh I knew that was going to win, it was a given.
I liked Kill Bill but it wont be getting nominated for anything.
(Hi, I'm new, but I thought I'd give my perspective, too.)
Kill Bill will get nominated for editing, which is to say it will be nominated for one relatively minor category, as a gesture of respect if nothing else.
Matrix Revolutions will get nominated (and win) for special effects, but not for director or best picture (and certainly not any acting categories).
ROTK will be nominated for best picture, best director, costume/makeup, special effects, screenplay, editing, and best supporting actor (just pick any one of those actors, but one of them will definitely get tapped--probably viggo or *gasp* sean astin).
And don't be surprised to see Bill Murray nominated this year.....

A lot of people seemed to be impressed with his work in Lost in Translation....didn't see it, but I'm sure it was a fine performance...I wouldn't be surprised if Viggo was nominated this year, but we'll see. Return is really his movie, and since Peter is really focused on the war, I'm sure we'll be hearing some big monolgue by Aragorn.
Bill Murray better get nominated for an oscar. He should've been nominated back for Rushmore
Rushmore was an awesome movie! Loved every minute of it.
I love all three of the Wilson/Anderson movies.
I know Royal was one, but what was the other?
Bottle Rocket (my favorite of the three). It was the first movie that either of the Wilson brothers were in
Never heard of it...what's it about? I love the Wilson Bros. they really have good timing or at least Owen does with his comedy.
It's about three guys who are trying to become professional robbers. One just got out of a voluntary mental health clinic, one of them should be in one, and the other is always being picked on by everyone else. It's a really sweet and funny movie, my personal favorite wes anderson / owen wilson movie.
I really liked The Royal Tenebaums, I've got it on DVD, Luke Wilson and Ben Stiller were particularly good.

more news on P. Jackson
Movieline's Hollywood Life October 2003 issue mentions 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' in its Oscar Bait article. Looks like third time might be the charm for director Peter Jackson...
It's the first since 'The Godfather' trilogy: a monstrous, three-part gargantua of a crowd-pleasing film that has already had its first two installments nominated for Best Picture. This year, it's an absolute sure thing, and a vote for the final chapter is essentially seen as a vote for the entire enterprise.
Conventional wisdom has it that Peter Jackson has thus far been passed over because voters were waiting to hand him the crown when the trilogy was complete. If it holds, the director, who up until 'The Fellowship of the Ring' was more famous for New Zealand zombie comedies, is a shoo-in for a Best Director slot. Just look at what the man generated - it makes the other possible contenders look like home-movie doodlers. The long-suffering cast could draw votes, too, particularly Ian McKellen - he'd be the first to be nominated for the same role in two movies since Paul Newman in 'The Hustler' and 'The Color of Money', and he's been around long enough to field an Unofficial Honorary Old-Age Oscar.
