The Hollywood Reporter says that Michael Douglas is in discussions to star as Ronald Reagan in Reykjavik. Mike Newell is in talks to direct from a screenplay by Kevin Hood.
The story takes us back to 1986, when Reagan met with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev for talks in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik to work out a peace agreement against the backdrop of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Shooting is scheduled to begin in March in Germany.
Douglas’ upcoming credits include Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra, and the comedy Last Vegas with Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.
