The summer is here and the blockbuster season is in full swing, but we will not be talking about 2018. We are going a year further, and we will be discussing the movies that are going to air in the summer of 2019. Are you ready? Let’s see which films will make our summer better.
Captain Marvel – March 8
Marvel has been launching movie after movie, but next year, they are going to deliver one with a female character as the lead. Captain Marvel is going to be played by Brie Larson, and the film will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Some other actors that are going to join Larson on stage are Ben Mendelsohn, Samuel L. Jackson, Lee Pace, Jude Law, Gemma Chan and Clark Gregg. This release is predicted to gross a lot of money.
Greyhound – March 22
Whenever we see Tom Hanks in the lead role, we are confident that the movie will be outstanding. In this one, Hanks will play a navy officer that commands the Greyhound during World War II. The director of this film is Aaron Schneider whereas Hanks wrote a screenplay for it. And while he can do it all, he will have fantastic colleagues such as Elisabeth Shue and Stephen Graham.
Dumbo – March 29
I grew up watching Dumbo, and this cartoon will always be one of those that marked my childhood. But next year, Disney plans to create a remake of sorts and the man behind the wheel will be Tim Burton, who made Alice in Wonderland extremely popular and profitable. The stars of the film will be Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito. And yes, let’s not forget about the CGI elephant.
Shazam – April 5
DC Extended Universe is having a quiet year, which means that they will be dropping some titles in 2019. We are expecting a long-anticipated Shazam to hit the silver screen. Zachary Levi will be the titular character whereas Mark Strong will join him. The film will be helmed by David F. Sandberg. Speaking of this movie, some rumors mentioned Dwayne The Rock Johnson who might appear as Black Adam, the antagonist, but so far nothing supports these talks, and they are most likely false. But we will see The Rock in his standalone Black Adam film.
The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle – April 5
It is hard to come up with the new story in this day and age when most of the things can already be found on tape. Even though I am not a big fan of remakes, Doctor Dolittle remake is scheduled for the next year, and it is high time for this movie to appear. In this one, we will watch Robert Downey Jr. as the titular character. Director Stephen Gaghan will lead the project, and besides Downey Jr., we will also see Emma Thompson, Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, John Cena, Marion Cotillard, Ralph Fiennes and Tom Holland.
Pet Sematary – April 5
Based on the novel written by brilliant Stephen King, Pet Sematary is finally going to find its way to the theaters in 2019. Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch will direct this film, while Jason Clarke will be in the main role. Probably, the budget for this movie will not be high, but it is expected to earn a lot of money.
The Avengers 4 – April 26
The fans of the Avengers will have to wait until next April to see the second part of the Avengers: Infinity War story. If we put Star Wars: Episode IX aside, we can confidently say that this film is going to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest blockbuster in the upcoming year. The Russo brothers will once again direct the project, and we cannot wait for it to come out.
Detective Pikachu – May 10
Two weeks after The Avengers, the fans will enjoy the new Detective Pikachu movie. So far, the actors who will appear are Ryan Reynolds and Kathryn Newton while Rob Letterman will direct the film. This will either going to be a summer hit or a disaster.
The Rosie Project – May 10
The Rosie Project is a popular book that follows a university professor who created a questionnaire to find a wife. The adaptation of this great novel should come out on May 10th, and once again, Ryan Reynolds will be in it.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – May 17
The action movie that shows Keanu Reeves in the role of John Wick returns. The protagonists will be on the run after killing a member of the High Table on the ground of The Continental Hotel, and the bounty is on his head. Chad Stahelski will once again direct the movie. The additions to the film are Angelica Huston and Halle Berry, whereas Ruby Rose, Common, Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane are going to reappear.
Aladdin – May 24
One of the most wonderful Disney cartoons has to be Aladdin, and now it comes in the form of a film. Will Smith is going to be the Genie, whereas Mena Massoud will play Aladdin. Currently, we don’t know who will appear in the role of Jasmine.
Godzilla: King of Monsters – May 31
In the summer of 2019, the fans will have a chance to enjoy a monster movie, created by Warner Bros and Legendary. This could be a sequel to Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards, or it might glue itself to Kong: Skull Island – it is too early to tell. Cast member list includes Sally Hawkins, Vera Farmiga, Charles Dance and O’Shea Jackson Jr.
The Secret Life of Pets – May 31
The Secret Life of Pets was widely successful, and there is no reason why part 2 shouldn’t be produced. It is too early to discuss the plot of this animated film, but we will watch more pets, and we believe that another megahit will be created.
Charlie’s Angels – June 7
Charlie’s Angels is a popular franchise that started airing in the 70s and later on there was even a couple of movies. It appears we have missed the characters since and the reboot will be premiered next year with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Lupita Nyong’o in the main roles.
Men In Black 4 – June 14
There are three parts of Men in Black and to be honest, all three were great. This time around, Men In Black will be completely different. Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth are going to star in this film, while F. Gary Gray will be the director. He is known for making Straight Outta Compton and Fast and Furious 8.
Toy Story 4 – June 21
It has been a long time since we have watched Toy Story 3 and finally, Pixar/Disney decided that it is time to refresh the franchise. This time, Josh Cooley will helm the movie, whereas Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are going to lend their voices to Woody and Buzz.
Cowboy Ninja Viking – June 28
A.J. Lieberman created this comic book, and a movie will be made based on it. The filming will start later this year in Canada, and the main character is the man with multiple personality disorder – he is a ninja, a Viking and a cowboy. We are not sure what to expect from this one, but we hope for the best.
Spider-Man: Far From Home – July 5
As we have already mentioned, DC Extended Universe is expected to shine next year. After the Avengers 4, they have prepared another film, which will tie to Spider-Man: Homecoming. The plot details are currently under wraps, and we cannot tell you anything at this moment. All we know is that Jon Watts, who was the director of Homecoming will be in his chair once more.
Top Gun 2 – July 12
Top Gun was a major hit, but it has been over 30 years since the original film debuted and won the hearts of every American. Now, Tom Cruise will be back as Maverick in the movie called Top Gun: Maverick. He will work with director Joseph Kosinski, and they know each other well since they worked together on Oblivion. Other cast members are currently unknown.
The Lion King – July 19
The Jungle Book was a spot on, which means that Disney and director Jon Favreau are going to continue this cooperation. But this time Favreau will be under a lot more pressure since he is going to recreate the most successful animated movie ever – The Lion King. Cast members include James Earl Jones, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyonce, John Oliver and Alfre Woodard.
Hobbs and Shaw – July 26
Hobbs and Shaw movie is going to be the first spin-off of the Fast and Furious franchise, and it comes out in the summer of 2019 as a major blockbuster. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are going to star in this film, and it will be interesting to track the reaction of Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson, who were opposing it and who have had quarrels with Johnson in the past. David Leitch will direct this project.
The New Mutants – August 2
Could it be that The New Mutants is finally going to appear on the silver screen? Delayed for a long time, New Mutants is currently being reworked by Josh Boone, and Fox is happy with the situation at the moment. Keep close attention to this one because it can be as popular as Logan and Deadpool.
Artemis Fowl – August 9
If you are a fan of Eoin Colfer’s book series, you will have a lot to be happy about. The movies are going to be made, adapted by Disney. Disney and Kenneth Branagh are working together on the same side again for the new project. The cast members will be Dame Judi Dench, Tamara Smart, Nonso Anonzie, Josh Gad and Ferdia Shaw.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – August 9
Are you a fan of Quentin Tarantino movies? The question should be who isn’t! His latest project is a Hollywood story set in the 1960s, and it follows two men who want to make a name for themselves facilitated by Charles Manson murders. Brad Pitt and Leo DiCaprio (WOW) are going to work together, and Margot Robbie and Zoe Bell will join them. I am already hyped, what about you?
Dora The Explorer – August 16
If your kids are watching Dora The Explorer, make sure to tell them that the movie will be created and out in theaters in the summer of 2019. Paramount will be working on this film, and we cannot wait to see what they got planned.
The Grudge – August 16
At the end of the summer season, prepare for the reboot of The Grudge. Nicolas Pesce will direct the film whereas Andrea Riseborough will lead the cast. Lin Shaye has confirmed her presence, but this is all we know about this project thus far.
If nothing gets delayed, these are the blockbuster releases that will be aired next summer. Which movie are you looking forward to?
