Born in New Delhi on November 2, 1965, Shah Rukh Khan attended St. Columba’s School and was one of the best students in his generation. In 1985, he enrolled at Hansraj College, pursuing a major in economics. Three years later, he got his bachelor’s degree and started Jamia Millia Islamia University, but soon dropped out in favor of his acting career.

Career

His first TV appearance came in 1988, in a show called Dil Dariya’, directed by Lekh Tandon. In 1989, he appeared in another TV show, titled Fauji. Due to the delayed production of Dil Dariya, Fauji came out first, thus becoming known as Shah Rukh Khan’s TV debut. In the next few years, he also starred in TV shows Circus, Idiot, Wagle Ki Duniya, and a TV film called In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones. In 1991, he moved to Mumbai and started accepting Bollywood roles. His first Bollywood movie was Deewana, released in 1992. It was a huge box office hit and is considered a launching point of his career. A series of movies where he played villains followed, like Darr and Baazigar. Baazigar brought him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. In 1993, his career was endangered by a naked scene with Deepa Sahi in Maya Memsaab. The resulting backlash has led him to the decision to never do naked scenes again.

He hosted a popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Khan was also a presenter on TV shows Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? and Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout.

One major mistake Khan made in his career was refusing the role in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. The role was eventually given to Anil Kapoor. The movie earned $377 million worldwide and became a must-see for all movie fans. Had Khan agreed to appear in it, both his net worth and his popularity would receive a major boost. Unfortunately for him, he misjudged badly and ended up missing out on one of the greatest hits of 2000s.
