The story is based on the manga of the same name, by writer YutoTsukuda and illustrator Shun Saeki.
J.C. Staff aired the first two-part season in the spring of 2015. The second season was a shorter one-partin 2016. The first half of the third finished in December 2017, while the second half ended in the middle of the story arc. From this, based on the pattern so far, it is likely that the number of episodes for Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Season 4 will be 12 once again.
Season 4 Potential
The second part of the third season of the show covered about half of the 92 chapters that tell the Promotion Exams story arc, which ends with Chapter 263. The good news from this is that there are enough pages left for Food Wars! Season 4 to go into production in 2019. The bad news however is that the manga is up to Chapter 268, which means the new season will have less episodes, and will be shorter.
There have not yet been any officially confirmed statements for the Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Season 4 release date. It has not even been announced yet. It is however possible to speculate about when or ifseason 4 will occur in the future.
The Future
Considering the manga’s plot, it makes perfect sense to finish the current story, and leave a future story for a new two-part season 5. The ending of the current story arc, Promotion Exams, is a good place to hit the brakes considering the next unfinished story is shorter. The best case scenario is for Food Wars! Season 4to be announced in the remaining months of 2018, so that the premiere could be during spring of 2019. There is no way for it to happen any sooner since J.C. Staff is working on One Punch Man Season 2 and A Certain Magical Index Season 3.
It is also possible for J.C. Staff to wait for the manga to go more ahead of the video adaptation. The manga comes out weekly, so by the beginning of 2019, it should be around Chapter 295. Over the course of 61 episodes, the anime averaged around 3.5 manga chapters per one episode. This means that there needs to be between 42 and 48 new chapters available. This would result in enough chapters for a two-part season by the early 2019, although the anime would not release until later that year. Stay tuned, as we will cover more on this story. The manga material is coming, so will the anime. We advise patience to the fans!
