Since there are quite a few films that we want to introduce you to, let’s jump straight into the content.
Kramer vs. Kramer – 1979
Although this is an older movie, it is more than worthy of your attention. The film was made back in 1979, but it can still compete with almost all modern films when it comes to good story-telling and emotions.
The director and screenwriter are Robert Benton, and since we don’t want to spoil any minute of this masterpiece for you, we’ll just tell say that it’s a great film and you should watch it, especially if you are in the mood for love dramas.
Shoot the Moon – 1982
Another old film that was an absolute hit back in its time, and it is still quite popular today as well. The film is directed by Alan Parker, and it is about two main characters, Mister and Mrs. Dunlap, who are trying to act like the breakup they are going through is not that big of a deal and they need to be very “grown-up” about it.
Things aren’t so easily done when you have emotions for someone however, so you should watch this film to see how the story plays out. There are a few things that will shock you, but in a good way.
A Separation – 2011
A newer movie by a popular Iranian director named Asghar Farhadi who also did the screenwriting, this one is about testing faiths and trust. The film is not that difficult to watch, although it has some pretty intense moments, and it is an artwork of great quality.
“A Separation” won the award for the best foreign-language film back in 2012, and it is still highly appreciated in the film community these days.
An absolute must-watch film if you are in the mood for watching movies with this kind of subject.
The main characters are Simin and Nader, and their daughter Termeh. Simin is the mother, and she refuses to take care of young Termeh, so her father Nader has to find someone to help him. That’s where the drama begins.
This flick will surely remind you of how separation can be difficult in real life. Here is where you can see all the things necessary, things you have to do such as hiring a lawyer, and going through the entire process of divorce.
Heartburn – 1986
Is it just us, or the older films about marriages and separation have a lot more emotion in them? Heartburn is a film that’s an adaptation of the novel with the same name, written by Nora Ephron back in 1983. Rachel Samstag and Mark Foreman are the main characters in the film, and the plot starts when the political columnist is caught having an affair.
According to the writer of the novel, Nora Ephron, one day she was writing something completely different in her office, and then she suddenly started writing about her marriage and how it ended. This is how the novel was made, and then adapted into a movie which achieved quite the success post-release.
Crazy Stupid Love – 2011
A newer film, at least compared to the other ones on the list, and this one will help you get through the tough period that you are experiencing right now. You’ll laugh, maybe cry as well, but then laugh some more. Why? Because Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling are here to take care of your emotions.
We’re not going to reveal too much of the plot, but the action starts when Cal is being told by his wife that she wants a divorce and she wants it done quickly. There are quite a few twists in this film, and it’s a great journey that will keep you at the edge of your seat, so make sure to give it a chance on your next movie night.
Hope Floats – 1998
Are you a fan of Sandra Bullock? If the answer is yes, this movie will have an even better effect on you. Sandra plays the role of a wife who discovers that her husband is cheating on her, and she sees this on live television. It might not be the easiest film to watch if you recently went through something like this, but it will help you understand some more about the emotions that a person feels when they face a situation of this kind.
The film is a true emotional rollercoaster and it will reach down to the depths of your emotions for sure. Whether you’re going to cry while you’re watching, or you will find some soothe by correlating with the character, we are not sure, but we think that you’ll like this film.
Eat Pray Love – 2010
Last but not least, Eat Pray Love is a film that managed to get the final spot on our list, and it’s a newer movie as well, compared to some of the previous titles that we mention. The star of the film is Julia Roberts, and the story is based on a very popular novel, but we are not going to reveal which one, and we’ll leave that up to you to discover.
The plot is about a woman who recently divorced and she feels like she’s way into her comfort zone to achieve the things she wants in life. After you face a situation like this in your life, you need to be “reborn”, and that can only be done by stepping out of the comfort zone and doing the required actions that will improve your life.
If you are feeling down at the moment, and you need something or someone to correlate to, this is the right movie that will inspire you to change no matter how difficult things are right now for you.
